AutismBrainstorm.org: Why You’ll Want to Go

As published on Examiner.com

The concept for a unique online autism community has been born. Shortly it will be introduced to the general community. Rarely do I run into someone who so completely and thoroughly understands the full magnitude of what this ‘soon to be unveiled’ community will offer, not only to individuals on the spectrum and their families, but also to the collective “whole”. John ‘Scotty’ Holman is one such individual. The following is an excerpt of a conversation we had earlier this evening…..here is what Scotty had to say:

“Why is Autismbrainstorm.org a unique concept?  It is utterly without precedent.  The concentrated inspiration of so many extraordinary minds has never fueled a project of this nature.

This will not be a mere compilation of regurgitated information; it will be a place of true discovery, an online factory of knowledge, where passionate minds gather to explore create, and debate.  It will be a virtual think tank and a thriving community charged with the collective passion of all who wish to decipher the mystery of autism… and of humanity as a whole.

In addition, it will be a gathering place for individuals who may struggle with the often isolating impact of autism spectrum disorders. We will provide an opportunity for healing, enlightening, and entertaining social interaction within a virtual environment, easily accessible from the comfort of one’s own home.

Although individuals as influential and respected as Dr. Stephen Shore, Dr. Robert Naseef and Sean Swindler (Director of Community Program Development and Evaluation for the Kansas Center For Autism Research and Training) are heavily involved, we are not interested in an environment of elitism or exclusivity.  Any individual impacted by autism will be warmly invited to join us, not merely as passive guests, but as integral players shaping the growth, development and trajectory of a communal adventure which not only reaches out…. but also reaches in.”

I am excited beyond description as this has of late been my private, too-ambitious dream. To combine true passion with character, minds that will not be seduced by nt goals nor driven by
petty grievances, ahh, to imagine…perhaps our time has come?

    Scotty,
This evening I was spending some time with family and some fairly new friends and was given your name and advised to google you by one of your best childhoodthat friends! The first thing I am present to tonight is that my son may have a best friend who accepts & deeply cares for him too some day! Next is that he will find his rythem… his unique beat will have a powerful possibility in this world and I am here to love him with the deep, wide pure love I have for my boy and not wish it was anything other than it is!
Thank you gor your magical writing, and for putting it in a place that will surely make a diffence… although I’ve had time to read a few, I’m hooked and will continue seeing through the eyes of the other side! Thank you
